Cafe Barge open in Tarbert

A new floating licensed café on a converted Luxemotor Dutch barge is now open in Tarbert (Loch Fyne).
Permanently moored in the inner harbour alongside the historic Thomas Telford quay wall the vessel was built in Haarlem in the 1920’s and until recently operated sea-fishing trips on the Wadensee in the Netherlands and incorporated a cafe below decks for anglers.
The present owners bought the boat in Holland and have upgraded the vessel in Loch Fyne after motoring her across the North Sea, through the Caledonian Canal and round the Mull of Kintyre (MacBrayne’s Cape Horn!).
The barge is a short walk from the new pontoons in Tarbert Harbour and only a couple of hours drive from Glasgow.
Michael Casey, a partner in Cafebarge said, “We look forward to welcoming you aboard our characterful and historic old vessel for simple, fresh, locally caught seafood and vegetarian dishes in a relaxed café/bar atmosphere.”
Drop in for a freshly made coffee and cake, a seafood or vegetarian snack, lunch or dinner. A glass of wine or bottle of real beer in a lovely relaxing environment.
See the CafeBarge web site.
