Cafébarge - No Winter Shutdown, and Fresh Menu Launch

Here's a quick press release received today from CafeBarge, just one of the lovely places to eat out in Tarbert. For those of you who don't know, Tarbert it is a beautiful natural harbour and fishing village tucked away at the top of the Kintyre peninsula and is very well worth a visit at any time of year.

But back to the main point; here are few words from Cafebarge:

Cafébarge, the floating licensed eatery offering local fresh seafood and vegetarian dishes on a converted Dutch barge berthed at Tarbert on Loch Fyne, has relaunched today after a short break with a fresh menu to defy the traditional west coast winter shutdown; a common grievance amongst urbanites searching desperately for evidence of cosmopolitan hospitality to be found in the rural West Coast over the long, dark winter months.

Michael Casey, who earlier this year launched Cafébarge together with his partner Linda Garwood, said: “If you thought that the entire Kintyre peninsula closed down over the winter season – then think again!” Contrary to most local hospitality sector operators, Cafébarge will be welcoming customers aboard all through the winter months – including over the festive period.

“And as well as being open over Christmas, we’ll be open on Hogmanay and New Years Day, when we’ll be serving delicious vegetarian or seafood stews accompanied by a glass of sherry as a pick me up for the excesses of the night before!”

Launched with the aim of breaking the mould of the standard food and drink fare available locally, Cafébarge aims to inject a more cosmopolitan dining experience into Kintyre and attract Central Belt city dwellers to venture that extra short drive beyond Inveraray to Tarbert. As such, it sources its fresh produce either directly from Tarbert quayside or from a variety of award-winning metropolitan food and drink suppliers and places a distinct emphasis on customer service.

Cafébarge’s winter menu includes a range of hearty chillies and daals as well as its favourite home-made vegetable or seafood soup and chowder, fresh Tarbert scallops, haggis with organic chutney, whole Tarbert prawn tails and oysters from nearby West Loch, Tarbert.

Permanently moored in the inner harbour alongside the historic Thomas Telford quay wall, the 100ft Cafébarge, licensed for 50 customers, is a short walk from the new pontoons in Tarbert Harbour and only a couple of hours drive from Glasgow.
